Saturday

Day 13

It's Saturday morning and 34 outside at 6:30am.  I went back to yesterday's (Day 12) post and edited it a little and added pictures.  If you had already looked at that post you may want to go back to see the pictures.

Today we are driving 20 north to Oracle to visit the Biosphere2.
I will add our experience and pictures after we return, so check back later.

Our tour of Biosphere was interesting, but complicated to understand all that was, and still is, going on there.  We took pictures, but can not even come close trying to explain them - so I probably won't even post them.
Here is a link to check it out if interested. Biosphere2

Day 12

We are still in Catalina State Park.  We signed up for a 5 night stay upon arrival, buyt there is a good chance we will stay even longer.  This means our "basic" scenery is not changing.   But some pictures are below.

Ellen treated us to a Lobster dinner and a movie tonight at the mall across the street from the Park.  Great dinner and funny movie (It's Complicated).  Thank you Ellen!

Nothing really to talk about execpt to we love this place and this weather!

First two pictures are just for a contrast between our views upon a rainy arrival on Day 10 and our current sunshine

OH MY GOD!  Look at this forecast

Thursday

Day 11

No snow overnight, no flash floods, no nothing!  We have really wanted to see a major "water" event here in the dessert but it was not to be again this trip.  The 10-day forecast is nothing but sunshine and 70+ so I guess we will not get what we want this trip other than great weather.  This is not a complaint!  The creek or wash or whatever they call it around here is flowing at a greater volume than we have seen in prior years, but still not anything close to running full.

Short drive today trying to find a canyon in the National Forest that the dogs could go with us on a hike, but they are just not allowed on the trails. Bummer!  So we did a walk "hike" here in the State Park where they are allowed anywhere.  The girls got to wet their paws in the stream but we did not let them get all the way in.

Simply enjoyed the sun today, but it sure gets cold when the sun goes down.  We didn't do much today so no pictures to add.  That's it for today.

Wednesday

Day 10

We did get up early and left the RV park ASAP.
Made it to Catalina State Park shortly after 9:00am.  We were third in line to get in if anything opened up.  Only took about 30 minutes and we had our site! Whew!  Now we can finally relax for awhile.  But, while I know the weather is shit back home, it's cold and raining here in Tucson.  Actually we are North of Tucson in Oro Valley.  It's a little higher in elevation and right next to the Catalina Mountains.  In fact, there is a chance of snow on the ground in the morning, although it won't get below freezing.  BUT - sunny and 60 by tomorrow afternoon and heading into the 70's by the weekend with nothing but blue sky.  Well, enough of that.  Don't want to piss anyone off.

Too cold and wet to do anything here today.  Ellen went to the grocery store and I did some computer "stuff".  Managed a short late afternoon dog walk after the rain stoped.  Yet another great dinner by Ellen - sauteed panko-crusted Hawaiian Opakapaka, sweet potatoes, and fresh green beans.  With Chalone Chardonnay.  She's nice to have along on these RV trips.

Pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I let Ellen trim my eyebrows while at Brantley Lake.  She had been drinking.  Big mistake by me!

Tuesday

Day 9

Packed up early and took the RV to be serviced at 9:00 am.  Ellen and the girls stayed behind with the car at the RV park and took advantage of the free breakfast and log fire to read awhile as I suffered in the waiting room at the Ford dealership.

She came to get me around 10:30.  "Thanks a lot"!

RV still was a couple of hours from being ready so we took a drive back up into the mountains towards Alomogorgo to check out a back country campground.  Intended to get there in time to take a hike with the dogs but took too much time to get there.  BEAUTIFUL drive but had to turn back to get the RV by the time we reached our destination.  No time to hike.  Shit!

Got the RV back and hooked up the car and got back on the road by 1:00 pm.  Decided to just go all the 300 miles to Catalina State Park north of Tucson and bypass a possible stop in between.  Mistake!  Got to Catalina about 5:45 and "no room at the inn".  Had to back track about one hour into the center of Tucson to an RV park RIGHT NEXT TO I-10 AND A RAILROAD TRACK.  Catalina does not take reservations but we did not even think to at least call ahead to see if they had space.  Oh Well!

But we are settled in for the night and the space has water and electricity. Perfect!  Tomorrow we will try to be first in line for Catalina.  If we strike out, we will just continue north to Phoenix.

As usual, too late to mess with posting pictures.  Not much to post anyway as we are camped next to the highway, but might have a couple of the mountains from this mornings drive tomorrow.\

Good night!

Monday

Day 8

I've spent most of the day figuring out the new software to post pictures.
Ellen did laundry.
Isn't this exciting!

We were going to drive up into the mountains today but it already is 1:00pm. May now wait until tomorrow and do it while the RV is in for service at 9:00am. They promised it to be completed by 2:00pm at the latest. Then we will travel as far West on I-10 as time allows. Could be Demimg, NM or Could be Tucson.

About 55 today and still sunny!

Here are a few pictures from the Hacienda RV park.

And here are a few pictures taken on a short walk in a nearby state park - the river is what is left of the "Mighty" Rio Grande by the time it reaches Las Cruces. Still, it's beautiful country. And look at the color of the sky!

Sunday

Day 7

<<<<<>>>>>

Rain was possible today but the sun was out all day. Cooler and wetter weather possible here next two days, but still in the 50's. Tucson looking good down the road with upper 60's and lower 70's into the week.
But one day at a time. Today surprised us so got some "outside" work done on the RV. We both used the fitness room to get a little exercise knowing we were going to over eat and drink today.

Super Bowl party today. Ellen Jo has prepared a Southwest "fiesta". BBQ Chicken Quesadillas and Shrimp Tacos with all the accouterments. You can see from the pictures that it was ALL GOOD! We are two hours behind home so we got to watch half of the game in daylight with the motor home doors open and cooking outdoors.

Well, my team lost and Ellen got me for $20.00. I'll hear about it for weeks!

Thank you all for keeping in touch.
